Before & After: A modern take on the classic white bathroom for C & S

Since Fine & Able designed and installed their bathroom, C & S say it has been transformed from the most hated room in their house to the most loved!

This modern take on a classic white bathroom with a stunning combination of matt black and soft wood styling has updated this room and created an accessible space that works perfectly for this young couple.

Before the renovation, the long and narrow footprint of this bathroom made it a challenging space full of awkward features. The corner bath and a separate raised shower enclosure ate into the floor space of the room and were not wheelchair accessible. The vanity unit made it uncomfortable to use the basin from seated, and the layout with the toilet right at the back of the room was difficult.

S has MS and is an occasional wheelchair user. The couple wanted a bathroom that worked for them on good days, but also on bad days when S's fatigue really affects his mobility.

After

Now C & S have created a layout featuring a spacious wheelchair-accessible shower area beside the bath, including a luxurious heated shower bench.

Replacing the shower cubicle with a wetroom where the toilet used to be was the key to this design. As all the workings of a wetroom are hidden beneath the tiles, it meant the room could laid out in a much more spacious and flexible way, rather than being restricted by the position of an awkward tray.

Building a half-height wall out into the room has put the toilet in a much easier to access location. It has also created a wonderfully cosy nook that keeps the toilet hidden from view while relaxing in the bath or shower.

The couple also opted for a wash and dry toilet to future-proof the space as S's condition progresses. There was even room for an extra basin to be tucked in beside the toilet to support with personal tasks.

The whole room is brought together by matt black grab rails and brassware to create a modern aesthetic that is beautifully complemented by natural wood accessories.
