A future-proofed garage conversion for K & her husband

K and her husband have made the forward-thinking decision to put things in place so they can stay in their own home as they get older. They are now undertaking a bold home renovation project to make sure everything works well for them now and in the future. This includes extending an existing downstairs bathroom into their garage slightly to give them more room for wheelchair access.

Future-proofing in style

While they are pretty active at the moment, K’s husband occasionally uses a wheelchair and K is starting to find she gets tired quickly so likes to be able to sit at the basin to get ready and clean her teeth.

K worked in care for many years and it was really important to her that her home didn’t have this look and feel, so she was delighted when she came across Fine & Able to help her create a stylish and easy-access bathroom.

Conscious they want to make this the last time they need to upgrade their home, they are now enjoying the process of creating a new space they love as well as gives them peace of mind everything is sorted. Lawnmower accessible!

This project also had one of the strangest requests we have ever had for a bathroom. Not only is this room wheelchair accessible – it is also fully lawnmower accessible!

When the couple extended into the garage it was important they didn’t compromise access to their back garden. So, now they have a bathroom with three doors! One from the house, one to the garden, and one to a storage area (where the lawnmower lives!). As it’s a wetroom – any mud that comes through can be easily washed off!
